People keep asking me what’s my stance on the witch hunt.
My take?
I DON’T CARE.
I’m a tech entrepreneur.
I can make them disappear and write a thriller about it.
Just kidding… 😂 All jokes aside.
I’m just not a fan when authors can potentially lose large contracts due to false accusations.
But my honest take? As a tech entrepreneur, AI is dangerous. I’m much less concerned that I could potentially read books written by a machine, and much more worried about what it means for human livelihoods.
Right now, AI cannot write a good book, and a bad writer won’t automatically become good by using AI. He/she will just become faster at writing bad books.
So yes, the writing concern should be the least of your worries. Because while you’re spending hours trying to figure out whether an author used AI to write a book, AI is already affecting people’s jobs and livelihoods.
And that doesn’t mean it will forever write bad books.
We are heading towards AGI, which is called Artificial General Intelligence, and within five years, you may very well not be able to distinguish between human authorship and AI. Which will bring us to the more dangerous part of AI.
AI can already help humans do terrible things if it gets into the wrong hands.
Assisting with sophisticated cyberattacks, provide information that could assist with the design of dangerous biological agents, automate surveillance, manipulate people at a large scale, assist with weapons development and replacing jobs.
Now imagine what it would be able to do in five years from now when AGI is finally here.
So the people you should go after are the ones developing it. Demand that generative AI be shut down. Let country leaders regulate it and take action.
Because while you’re fighting authors, corporates are busy making it stronger.
Fight Anthropic, OpenAI, X. Fight the data centres powering this technology. Fight the companies building the infrastructure. Oracle, Amazon, all the big corporations pouring billions into AI.
And fight the social platforms and design platforms that are integrating it into everything.
Go after the entire ecosystem. That should take care of your reading list.
Just don’t you dare touch the feature where Ai takes a photo of the criminal who stole my iPhone and sends me an email with his location.
I draw the line there. 😂
